Children, Youth and Families
The well-being of children and youth should be a priority, as they are the future. Improving the well-being of children and youth also involves investing in support (services) for families. Helsinki has a total of 100 municipal primary schools and about 45,000 schoolchildren. We must ensure that each school and every grade level has sufficient learning materials available so that everyone has equal rights to learn, and teachers have the resources to teach. Bullying and school violence should be eradicated through cooperation between authorities. Various measures should be taken to ensure that young people have opportunities to try out their abilities in work life (eg. summer jobs).
Employment and Businesses
Unemployment equals poverty. Helsinki must be developed so that there are jobs for everyone, and companies have a favorable business environment. Employment services must be developed further. Public procurements must support local businesses. The decision-making process in Helsinki should increasingly take into account micro and small businesses and recognize the value of the city center’s local shops in defining a pleasant and vibrant urban hub. Currently, there are 51,000 businesses in Helsinki, most of which employ fewer than five people. We also should seek growth by attracting the rest of the world to Helsinki and help companies to relocate to Helsinki.
Local Surroundings
I am in favor of our beautiful nature. The city parks, green areas, and the Baltic Sea need to be protected. The number of parks and green areas should be increased, not reduced. The protection of the Baltic Sea must continue with determination. Nature also has a valuable role in enriching tourism. In Lauttasaari, the current issue is the construction of Koivusaari. I want to support a solution that reduces landfilling and construction as planned and ensures that Lauttasaari’s shores and the sea life do not suffer from construction work.
